{"id":90,"date":"2012-07-07T12:15:40","date_gmt":"2012-07-07T12:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rosarioconsulting.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/?p=90"},"modified":"2012-07-21T02:39:54","modified_gmt":"2012-07-21T02:39:54","slug":"how-can-ai-improve-our-organizations-schools-and-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/how-can-ai-improve-our-organizations-schools-and-families\/","title":{"rendered":"How can AI improve our organizations, schools, and families?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<!-- Facebook Like Button v1.9.6 BEGIN [http:\/\/blog.bottomlessinc.com] -->\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Finspiredtoeducate.net%2Finspiredtoeducate%2Fhow-can-ai-improve-our-organizations-schools-and-families%2F&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=false&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height: 30px; align: left; margin: 2px 0px 2px 0px\"><\/iframe>\n<!-- Facebook Like Button END -->\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rosarioconsulting.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/johnny5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-91\" title=\"johnny5 - the dreamer robot\" src=\"http:\/\/rosarioconsulting.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/johnny5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/johnny5.jpg 336w, https:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/johnny5-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In computer science, I fell in love with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artificial_intelligence\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a>. \u00a0 It&#8217;s the sort of topic that you see in science fiction that makes you dream about how the world will be different. \u00a0 While I would love to talk about artificial intelligence more, I feel that I need to talk about another type of AI that has profoundly influenced my thinking. \u00a0 \u00a0I believe that we could make positive change in education, our places of business, and our families using appreciative\u00a0inquiry. \u00a0(AI)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do I believe appreciative\u00a0inquiry(AI) is important?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In our modern age, I can understand why we tend to focus on problems. \u00a0 In our news media, how easy is it to find news about people who are making improvements or positive change? \u00a0 I believe organizations should know their weaknesses. \u00a0 I, however, believe that we can often let weaknesses dominate the process of making our organizations better.<\/li>\n<li>After reading and listening to <a title=\"entreleadership\" href=\"http:\/\/www.entreleadership.com\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\">EntreLeadership <\/a>by Dave Ramsey, I believe that creating positive culture has become the new imperative. \u00a0 I love the idea that you have to &#8220;start with a dream and end in a goal.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Plants and organic systems grow toward light. \u00a0 I believe human organizations also grow toward &#8220;light.&#8221;<br \/>\n(leaders and organizations who make positive change)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>How does the process work?<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BqHeujLHPkw\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>For a brief summary of the process, please visit the <a title=\"AI\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Appreciative_inquiry\" target=\"_blank\">appreciative inquiry page on Wikipedia.<\/a><\/div>\n<p>In my previous employer <a href=\"http:\/\/embanetcompass.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CompassKnowledge<\/a> group, I had the opportunity to see this process in action.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senior leadership team created and documented a shared vision for the organization.<\/li>\n<li>A senior leader interviewed me. \u00a0During this interview, we talked about moments where I felt I was excited about my life and work. \u00a0We talked about the strengths used during those high points in my life. \u00a0 We also brain stormed ways that my strengths can be used in the work place to create more positive change for our team and customers.<\/li>\n<li>This process was repeated for all 200+ employees. (Wow!)<\/li>\n<li>Without getting into too much detail, the company aggregated the data from the strengths and opportunities to form a master plan regarding how <a href=\"http:\/\/embanetcompass.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CompassKnowledge<\/a>\u00a0was going to rock distance learning in the future while charging up the team. \u00a0 The shared vision and dream was enhanced with ideas coming from every single member of the organization, a sample of the students we served, and our customers.<\/li>\n<li>Impacts that I treasure: (1) \u00a0During this process, I pitched the idea of doing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/10\/21\/jobs\/21pre.html\" target=\"_blank\">innovation time off<\/a>\u00a0 to senior leadership. \u00a0This discussion evolved into a few strategic research projects. \u00a0(2)\u00a0I especially loved that we spoke with some of our knowledge partners(customers) and students. \u00a0It helped me connect my job with the stories of students getting excited about finishing their degree through one of our programs and the positive impacts it will have for their families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How can I use this process today?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Put yourself in an environment where you can think for 20 minutes. \u00a0 I would recommend getting a blank sheet of paper and a pen. \u00a0 Take the time to answer the following questions.<\/p>\n<p>1 &#8211; What are the high points or most celebrated stories in your life?<\/p>\n<p>2 &#8211; What was a time that you were excited to jump out of bed and start working<br \/>\non your project or cause?<\/p>\n<p>3 &#8211; What personal strengths do you have from those high points in your life?
