overflow:hidden; width:450px; height: 30px; align: left; margin: 2px 0px 2px 0px\"><\/iframe>\n<!-- Facebook Like Button END -->\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/googleCardBoard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1537 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/googleCardBoard-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Google Cardboard\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/googleCardBoard-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/googleCardBoard-900x506.jpg 900w, http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/googleCardBoard.jpg 983w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s fun to consider the future of wearable computing. \u00a0 Many of my friends at work can&#8217;t wait to get their hands on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oculusvr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oculus rift<\/a> to start building virtual reality experiences. \u00a0 Thanks to Google, if you&#8217;re interested in tinkering with virtual reality and you have a modern Android phone, you don&#8217;t have to wait or have a deep wallet. \u00a0 During the Google I\/O conference last week, Google announced a series of open source projects enabling early adopters and makers to tinker with early design concepts for Google&#8217;s virtual reality platform.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about this platform, please visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gweb-cardboard.appspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/gweb-cardboard.appspot.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also view the Google I\/O session here:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DFog2gMnm44\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From a quick review, here are some potential benefits of the technology<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While the technology is still young, the virtual reality concept can provide captivating environments for training, educational games, and simulations. \u00a0The Google Earth app is just beautiful. \u00a0Someone needs to make <a title=\"MetaBlast, a video game quest through a cell.\" href=\"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/?p=164\" target=\"_blank\">Metablast<\/a> using virtual reality. \u00a0It would be cool to explore the inside of a cell using virtual reality. \u00a0I can only imagine how artists will use this technology. \u00a0 Good times!<\/li>\n<li>I believe that Google is trying to start of movement of innovation using their cardboard project. \u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/communities\/111524380182206513071\" target=\"_blank\">Google+ community page for Google Cardbard\/VR<\/a> has 1900+ makers who are experimenting with the hardware design. \u00a0 You can find people using 3D printers to print original plastic designs. \u00a0 Others are using inexpensive toys for viewers.<\/li>\n<li>For the most part, virtual reality is just expensive. \u00a0 \u00a0This move by Google will rapidly expand access to the technology while driving down cost across the industry.<\/li>\n<li>I think it&#8217;s cool that Google supports <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.samples.apps.cardboarddemo\" target=\"_blank\">native Android<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/vr.chromeexperiments.com\" target=\"_blank\">JavaScript<\/a> implementations of VR apps. \u00a0 I believe that everyone \u00a0appreciates expanded capabilities of their existing Android phones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In my case, I built the Google Cardboard viewer using my printer, paper, glue, tape, and cardboard folders. \u00a0 \u00a0Unfortunately, I would need to wait to obtain other parts and lenses. \u00a0Based on an idea from the Cardboard community group on G+, I tried getting a toy from our Dollar store. \u00a0 \u00a0With a few slight modifications, I was able to explore the Cardboard HTML5 and Android apps. \u00a0 This has to be the most fun $2.50 I have ever spent!<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>Playing with Google <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Cardboard?src=hash\">#Cardboard<\/a>. we tried 2 viewers.
