{"id":1155,"date":"2013-10-09T11:34:43","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T11:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/?p=1155"},"modified":"2013-10-09T12:19:39","modified_gmt":"2013-10-09T12:19:39","slug":"join-us-at-the-atlanta-mini-maker-faire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/join-us-at-the-atlanta-mini-maker-faire\/","title":{"rendered":"Join us at the Atlanta Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<!-- Facebook Like Button v1.9.6 BEGIN [http:\/\/blog.bottomlessinc.com] -->\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Finspiredtoeducate.net%2Finspiredtoeducate%2Fjoin-us-at-the-atlanta-mini-maker-faire%2F&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=false&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height: 30px; align: left; margin: 2px 0px 2px 0px\"><\/iframe>\n<!-- Facebook Like Button END -->\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ATLMakerFaire.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1156\" title=\"ATLMakerFaire\" src=\"http:\/\/inspiredtoeducate.net\/inspiredtoeducate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ATLMakerFaire.png\" alt=\"Check out the ATLANTA Mine Maker Faire\" width=\"300\" height=\"282\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Makers movement, a Maker Faire is a community gathering that celebrates creative expression in digital fabrication, arts, fine crafts, robotics, programming, and engineering. \u00a0Across the nation, these events are inspiring kids and adults to be creative, curious and take on the spirit of an inventor.<\/p>\n<p>Frequent readers of our blog will note that I\u2019m passionate about creativity.\u00a0\u00a0 I love the craft of making music.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks to my mom and dad, I grew up in a home where I learned to play violin and piano.\u00a0\u00a0 As I internalized my love for music, I started learning how to arrange music on my computer and picked up guitar.\u00a0\u00a0 I am always thankful that my parents fostered musical thinking in my life.\u00a0\u00a0 It has been a source of self confidence and joy.<\/p>\n<p>I also enjoy the crafts related to computers.\u00a0\u00a0 I grew up tinkering with computers with my dad.\u00a0\u00a0 I can still remember writing simple games in GW-BASIC programs with him on our IBM PC 8068.\u00a0\u00a0 When I was eight, my dad brought home our first mouse.\u00a0 This was a revolutionary technology at the time. \u00a0I spent hours learning how to draw pictures on Microsoft Paint.\u00a0\u00a0 These small creative experiences with my dad inspired me to become a software engineer.\u00a0 As a researcher today, I enjoy artificial intelligence, machine learning, gaming and how technology supports learning.<\/p>\n<p>My parents fostered my love of learning by exposing me to music and tinkering with computer technology.\u00a0\u00a0 Sarah and I hope to inspire this same love of learning in our kids.\u00a0\u00a0 We enjoy taking the kids on road trips to help them stand in \u201cawe\u201d of the world.\u00a0 Sarah, my wife who works as a biology professor, does a great job teaching them about the building blocks of life.\u00a0\u00a0 She celebrates the wonderful complexities of our Earth and nature.\u00a0 It\u2019s cool to hear my eldest talk about exploring cells or get excited about discovering a new plant or insect.<\/p>\n<p>In the Rosario household, it\u2019s very common to see us making stuff.\u00a0 We enjoy making music together.\u00a0 More recently, we have started playing Minecraft together.\u00a0 We enjoy building Lego space ships and robots together.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing to see how much fun the kids have building forts from card board boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Making is in our DNA. \u00a0If you\u2019re reading this post, you probably enjoy being curious, being creative, and learning.\u00a0\u00a0 With that said, I wanted to promote the Atlanta Maker Faire that will be happening later this month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Atlanta Maker Faire<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The third annual Atlanta Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Georgia Tech from 10am to 5pm.
